Q. What is Text Messaging?

A. TBayTel Mobility's two-way text messaging service provides you with an alternative to voice communication. Text Messaging lets you send short text messages to other cellular users directly from your cellular phone. You can also receive text messages on your cellular phone. Note: The phone originating and the phone receiving the Text Message must subscribe to the Text Messaging service feature.

Q. What are some of the advantages of Text Messaging?

A. It's a fast, silent and practical way of keeping in touch with family, colleagues and friends when you can't or don't want to make or take a regular call on your cellular telephone. You can also save money on your TBayTel Mobility bill since no airtime or long distance charges apply when you send a text message.

Q. Can I have Text Messaging without buying a new phone?

A. Yes, most existing digital cellular phones are capable of receiving messages, however, you may not be able to send messages or your phone may require a software upgrade to make it Text Messaging capable. Consult your cellular phone's user manual for details on using the Text Messaging capabilities of your particular phone. If your cellular phone is not compatible, ask your TBayTel Mobility dealer about different phone types tha are compatible.

Q. How can I send a message?

A. You can send a message from your digital cellular phone with text messaging capabilities, any e-mail system with an Internet connection, the "Send a Text Message" form on the TBayTel website, or through a PC using a paging, alarm or Text Messaging software package. Q. How do I receive a text message on my phone?

A. For most cellular digital phones you can receive text messages as follows:

  • When you receive a new text message, an alert tone sounds and an envelope icon appears.
  • Select "Read," and then scroll down to read the full message.

A. Your e-mail address is your 10-digit cellular telephone number @tbayteltxt.net. For example: 8076234400@tbayteltxt.net.

Q. Can TBayTel Mobility subscribers send and receive messages from non-subscribers?

A. TBayTel Mobility subscribers can receive messages from other carrier's subscribers to their 10-digit cellular number (i.e., 8076234400@tbayteltxt.net).

Q. How many characters can I send and receive with text messaging?

A. TBayTel Mobility can support up to 160 characters per message.

Q. What is included in the 160-character limit of a text message?

A. The 160-character limit includes the sender's e-mail address (if applicable), the composed message and, if provided, the subject and callback number.

Q. What is the difference between a text message and an alert?

A. An alert is a notification that appears on the handset communicating that some type of information has been delivered. An alert can be any of the following:

  • A notification of a text message.
  • A notification of a voicemail message.
  • An information alert about today's weather, a horoscope, stocks, news, sports scores, etc.
