As of October 26, 2009, the Ontario Driving Distraction Legislation prohibits drivers from using cell phones and other hand-held devices while driving. Drivers who text, type, email, dial, or chat while using a prohibited hand-held device can be fined up to $500. To encourage awareness of the Ontario Driving Distraction Legislation, TBayTel and community sponsors hosted the TBayTel Talk & Text Safe Driving Challenge. Drivers traversed a rigorous ten minute closed course while using their cell phone to demonstrate the difficulties of talking and texting while driving. The event was held on June 13, 2009 in the parking lot of the Community Auditorium.
