HST Adjustment Information

The Province of Ontario is moving to a federally administered Harmonized Sales Tax (HST) effective July 1, 2010.  The transition to HST will impact Tbaytel customers prior to July 1, 2010, as many Tbaytel services are billed in advance.

How will I know if my June Tbaytel bill should include HST?

If your Tbaytel bill is dated June 1st, HST will not apply to your bill.  If your Tbaytel bill is dated June 8th, June 15th, June 16th or June 23rd, HST will be applied to your bill on a pro-rated basis.

How will the taxes be calculated on my June Tbaytel bill?

PST, GST and HST will be applied to your June bill as follows:

  • Applicable PST and GST will be calculated on monthly Tbaytel charges and credits based on the number of service days in June.  PST and GST will be assessed on products and services in accordance with PST and GST rules.
  • Applicable HST will be calculated on monthly Tbaytel charges and credits based on the number of service days in July.  HST will be assessed on products and services in accordance with HST rules.
  • Applicable PST and GST will be calculated on long-distance, airtime and roamer activity in accordance with PST and GST rules.  HST is not applicable on calls that originate prior to July 1, 2010, and as such no HST will be assessed on any calls appearing on June bills.

Example:

A Tbaytel customer is billed on June 8, 2010.

The bill contains charges for access and features from June 8, 2010 to July 7, 2010.  This bill straddles the HST implementation date, and as such two set of tax rules will be applied against the billable charges and credits.

PST and GST will be applied to monthly charges and credits from June 8th to June 30th, and HST will be applied to monthly charges and credits from July 1st to July 7th.

PST and GST will be applied to long-distance charges.  HST is not applicable to calls originating prior to July 1, 2010.

How will the taxes appear on my June Tbaytel bill?

Tbaytel bills dated June 8th, June 15th, June 16th and June 23rd will contain transitional tax adjustments for PST, GST and HST related to Tbaytel services.

  • PST, GST and HST related to Tbaytel monthly services will appear under the caption PST/GST & HST – MONTHLY CHARGES within the Account Level Charges category of the bill.  The combined value of these charges will be summarized on Page One of the bill beside the caption PST/GST & HST – Monthly Charges.
  • PST and GST related to Usage (long-distance, airtime and roamer activity) will continue to appear within the body of the bill under the applicable Subscriptions.  The combined value of each tax will appear on Page One of the bill beside the captions PST – Usage, and GST – Usage.

How will I calculate my Input Tax Credits from my June Tbaytel bill?

Customers who are eligible to claim Input Tax Credits will use the following values to calculate their eligible ITCs:

  • On Page One, the value noted beside GST (R121396592) – Usage
  • In the body of the bill, the value noted beside GST – June XX – June 30
  • In the body of the bill, the value noted beside HST – July 1 – July XX
