How do I check a trouble condition?

A trouble condition is an indication that there is something wrong with your security system. Some possible causes of a trouble condition include a low battery, an unplugged wall outlet, an activated tamper switch or a problem with the communicator.

A trouble condition is an indication that there is something wrong with your security system. Some possible causes of a trouble condition include a low battery, an unplugged wall outlet, an activated tamper switch or a problem with the communicator.

When a trouble condition occurs a trouble message or indicator will be displayed on the system's display screen or keypad. In most cases the message will also indicate what is causing the trouble condition. During this time, the system may periodically beep to alert the user of the situation. The beeping will continue until the trouble condition is acknowledged.

Security panels will have a trouble light that illuminates or there will be a banner indicating the system cannot be armed. To check what kind of trouble is causing the system to be in a trouble condition you will need to check what kind of keypad you have.

To check for trouble conditions you need to press STAR(*)+2 on the keypad. From there a zone light will light up on the LED keypad.

The Zone number that lights up is defining the type of trouble - it can be anything from a communications fault to a sensor low battery. The different manufacturers will have different meanings associated with the different numbers.

To check for trouble conditions you need to press STAR(*)+2 on the keypad. From there a trouble type will come up on the LCD display. It is a little easier as the screen will indicate View Trouble and you can use the left and right arrows to move through the trouble conditions found.

Touch Screen Keypads

Touchscreens are a little different - they will display a graphical representation of the trouble:

The older touchscreen displays will want you to touch the System icon, you may have to press the More button to get the System icon. Newer touchscreens will allow you to check sensors from the trouble condition screen.
Touchscreen systems will display the zone that is in trouble & when you clear the trouble the system should return to a Ready to Arm state.

If you have misplaced your manual for the security system Tbaytel Technical Support can provide you with a PDF copy of the manual via email should you need it. They are freely available on the internet from the manufacturer of the system’s website.
