Since our founding in 1902, Tbaytel has grown to become the largest independently owned telecommunications provider in Canada. We recognize the importance of evolution and innovation, and are committed to providing customers across northern Ontario with the best telecommunications services available to them where they live.
With a wireless network that covers over 300,000 km2 —from just west of Sault Ste. Marie to the Manitoba border—Tbaytel keeps northern Ontario connected through advanced mobile technology, and is in the process of expanding our LTE coverage across our serving territory.
At Tbaytel, partnerships are a key part of providing the best service possible. In 2010, we signed a strategic business agreement with Rogers, which gives our customers access to the latest mobile phones and mobility services, and provides an integral link between east and west for customers across Canada through Tbaytel’s world-class network.
In 2013, Tbaytel embarked on a multi-year plan to deliver fibre-optic technology across our serving territory to help create a smarter, more connected region. As of 2019, Tbaytel has covered 72.5 per cent of our defined fibre coverage footprint in Thunder Bay, and has completed regional fibre builds in Fort Frances, Dryden and Kenora.
At Tbaytel, we are dedicated to being a good neighbour and giving back to the communities that support us. Whether it's through the support of community organizations, local events or good projects or initiatives submitted through our Community Fund, Tbaytel is proud to partner to make our communities a better place. Our support reaches over 150 organizations across 14 communities and is more than $550,000 annually which demonstrates the need and good work that happens every day. Learn more at tbaytelforgood.net.
