Tbaytel Email Setup: Outlook Express

Instructions for setting up your Tbaytel email account in Microsoft Outlook Express

1. Open Microsoft Outlook Express.

  • If this is your first time, you may be prompted to set up an account automatically and can skip to step 2.

  • If not prompted to set up an account, click 'Tools' near the top-left.

  • In the Tools menu, click 'Accounts'

  • In the Internet Accounts window, click the 'Mail' tab at the top.

  • On the right, click 'Add' and then 'Mail'

2. When the Wizard appears, fill in your 'Display Name' which is usually your name as you want it to appear to people you send a message to.

  • Click 'Next'

3. Fill in your full Email Address.

  • Click 'Next'

4. Fill out the E-Mail Server Name settings as shown below.

  • Change 'My incoming mail server is a Pop3 server' to 'IMAP' (IMAP is best when using multiple devices such as a desktop, laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.)

  • Incoming mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server: mail.tbaytel.net

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP) Server: mail.tbaytel.net

  • Click 'Next'

5. Fill in the Internet Mail Login information as shown below:

  • Account Name: yourusername%tbaytel.net (Note: Use a "%" instead of a "@" when entering your username)

  • Password: the password for your Email Address. (If you've forgotten your password or need assistance, please call Tech Support @ 684-FAST (3278) 24 hours a day.

  • Click 'Next'

6. Your Email Address will be set up once you click 'Finish' on this last screen, but there are a few more things we need to do after clicking Finish.

7. To make sure you can send Email reliably, we need to change a few simple Outgoing Server settings in your new account.

  • If clicking Finish at the end of Step 6 brought you back to the 'Internet Accounts' screen, skip to step 8.

  • Otherwise click 'Tools' at the top of Outlook Express.

  • Click 'Accounts' in the Tools menu.

8. In the 'Internet Accounts' screen, click the 'Mail' tab at the top.

  • Click the newly created mail account on the Mail tab to select it.

  • Click the 'Properties' button on the right.

  • Alternatively, you can double-click the account.

9. In the Properties window, click the 'Servers' tab at the top.

  • Most of the Server Information should be correct, but it's good to verify it while you're here.

  • At the very bottom, make sure you put a check-mark beside 'My server requires authentication'

  • You can also click the 'Settings' button at the bottom to make sure the next window is set to 'Use same settings as my incoming mail server' and then click OK to close that window.

  • Click 'Apply' at the bottom to save those settings but not close the window.

10. Click on the 'Advanced' tab at the top of the Properties window and fill in the fields as shown below:

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 587 (instead of 25)

  • UNcheck 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

  • Incoming mail (IMAP): 143

  • UNcheck 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

  • Click 'OK' at the bottom to save all changes and close the window.

11. Your account is now set up and you should be able to send email from anywhere as long as you have Internet access.

View or Change Existing Email Account Settings

1. Click 'Tools' up near the top-left corner of Outlook Express

  • Then click 'Accounts'

2. In the Internet Accounts screen, click the 'Mail' tab at the top.

  • Click the mail account you would like to change to select it.

  • Click the 'Properties' button on the right.

  • Alternatively, you can double-click the account.

3. On the General tab, make sure your E-Mail Address is correct as well as your Name.

  • Click 'Apply' to save any changes on this tab

4. On the Servers tab, make sure your information is correct and the server settings match below:

  • Incoming mail (IMAP): mail.tbaytel.net

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): mail.tbaytel.net

  • Account name: your full Email Address

  • Password: current password for your Email Address

  • 'My server requires authentication' should have a check-mark.

  • Click 'Apply' to save any changes on this tab

5. On the Advanced tab, make sure the setting match below:

  • Outgoing mail (SMTP): 587 (instead of 25)

  • UNcheck 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

  • Incoming mail (IMAP): 143

  • UNcheck 'This server requires a secure connection (SSL)

  • Click 'Apply' to save any changes on this tab

  • If done making changes, click 'OK' on any tab.

6. Back in the Internet Accounts screen, click 'Close'
