Since 2015, Tbaytel has marked December 1st to 12th with the Tbaytel 12 Days of Christmas campaign, a time to celebrate the season and give back to the communities we serve. The 2025 campaign marks the 10th anniversary of this initiative, through which we deliver surprises, support organizations across northern Ontario, and make the holidays a little more merry and bright.

"The holiday season is a special time for Tbaytel to recognize and give back to the communities we serve," said Amy Meunier, Tbaytel’s Vice President, Sales, Marketing & Communication. "Our 12 Days of Christmas initiative is all about spreading unexpected joy and positivity, hoping that these acts of kindness will brighten someone's day and encourage a spirit of giving across the region."

This year, Tbaytel supported not-for-profits across our region with donations, surprise Christmas parties, gifts, free gas, meal deliveries, and employee volunteers. Tbaytel and its Authorized Dealers also popped up in nearly a dozen locations around our communities to surprise people with gift cards and much-needed donations. Additionally, we ran a special feature on our social media platforms where each day we posted a Christmas trivia question, and followers who answered correctly first received a $100 gift certificate to Intercity Shopping Centre.

For 2025, Tbaytel’s 12 Days of Christmas included the following surprises:

Day One – Tbaytel 12 Days of Christmas kicked off at SPG Marathon, our Marathon Tbaytel store staff surprised customers with free gas!

Day Two – We went to the Regional Food Distribution Association (RFDA) and helped make 8000 cookies for Christmas Cheer hampers and made a $3500 donation to the organization.

Day Three – Our Tbaytel Authorized Dealers across the region gave back to their communities in a number of ways including:

  • Atikokan Enercom: Paid for the first 100 seniors who attended the Legion’s Seniors Annual Christmas Dinner
  • Everything Mobile - Terrace Bay: $300 Donation to Furget-me-not Animal Shelter and special holiday giftbags to community members
  • Square Three Wireless in Wawa: Purchased $50 Esso gift cards for their volunteer fire department.
  • Red Lake Marine: Catered an event for the Red Lake Age Friendly Project seniors group
  • Sight and Sound: Purchased food for Fort Frances Salvation Army Food Bank
  • Oshtugon Computers (Dryden and Sioux Lookout): Created care packages for women and children in shelters
  • Donny B’s: Purchased gift packs for teenagers for The Salvation Army Christmas hampers, and donated to the OPP stuff-a-cruiser event

Day FourOur staff shopped for groceries and made pizza and caesar salad with the Westgate CVI Special Needs/Multi-Needs Class and provided a $4,663.93 donation to continue their program.

Day Five - We went live on-air during Acadia Broadcasting's 36 Hours of Cheer to announce a $10,000 donation to Christmas Cheer!

Day Six – We attended the Youth Wellness Holiday Party, bringing candy for the gingerbread contest we helped judge, served the feast, helped with crafts and games, and donated $4,800 for The Hub’s programming.

Day Seven – We headed to Station Market AND Intercity Shopping Centre to surprise shoppers with $100 gift cards to make their Christmas a little merrier!

Day Eight – We stopped at the ONWA SKA-BE Christmas Party where we contributed to dinner and purchased Walmart $100 gift cards for all attendees.

Day Nine - The Kingsway Park Public School Choir surprised Glacier Ridge and Chartwell Thunder Bay Senior residences with performances, handmade cards, and cookies.

Intrepid Bus Charters donated the choir's motor coach trip. We celebrated with a pizza party and supported the school’s music program with gift certificates to a local music store and instrument repair shop.

Day Ten – We stopped by Grace Place and helped serve the hot turkey meal, purchased baking and provided all attendees with toques and mitts

Day Eleven – We joined the volunteers with Isthmus to pack 352 bags for students to take home over the weekend and provided a donation of $5,000 to the program.

Day Twelve – We stopped at Our Lady of Charity School for bingo games and prizes, gingerbread cookie decorating, pizza and a dance party!

Thank you to all of our staff volunteers, authorized dealers, community partners and organizations who helped us make the Tbaytel 12 Days of Christmas a success again this year!

MARATHON — Motorists were in for a treat on Monday if they stopped for gas at the Swipe, Pump & Go in Marathon.

Tbaytel launched its 12 Days of Christmas campaign in the North Shore community, rewarding the public with a free fill-up.

“I've never gotten free gas, and I'm 62 years old. It was really nice, and it's nice to have that little bit of extra money in your pocket and see the generosity put back into the customers of Marathon,” said Edwina Severance.

Severence told Newswatch she stopped by SPG, like she does most days, and was delighted to find out that her tank would be free today.

A lot of shocked and surprised faces were seen at SPG this morning, according to Tbaytel public relations communication coordinator, Kaitlin Gaspar.

“We all know gas is very expensive. People think that we're joking, it was lots of shock and pure happiness and joy, which is exactly what we want to do with this campaign,” she said.

Tbaytel employees and authorized dealers in the region are working together to surprise individuals and organizations, Gaspar said.

“We do have a Tbaytel store in Marathon. Our Tbaytel staff were delighting customers with a surprise, which was free gas. We actually ran through our allotted amount in two hours. The community of Marathon was very excited, news spread fast and there was a large lineup of cars getting gas this morning,” she said.

Gaspar said the campaign is more about giving and strengthening the region as a whole.

“It's about connecting and celebrating the bonds that bring us all together, especially during the holidays.

“We continue to support people and local organizations. We look forward to continuing to make a positive difference in spreading joy across all of our communities each and every year, not just at Christmas,” Gaspar said.

Abhijeet Vaity, owner of SPG Marathon, said the gas station is not typically busy, but when people learned what was going on, the gas station became jam-packed.

“It was something different, and everyone was very much surprised by getting that,” he said.

Vaity said all of the happiness throughout the community was contagious.

“It’s an amazing feeling, right, because this is the time when people are really working hard on their budgets and spending, spending large amounts on gifts for their loved ones.

“Gas is such an expensive thing right now, giving them free gas was something different than what they expected.”

Thunder Bay, ON — November 6, 2025 — Tbaytel was excited to submit a proposal for exclusive primary naming rights for the City’s new Indoor Turf Facility and together with the City of Thunder Bay are proud to announce that Tbaytel was awarded that opportunity. The proposed name, the Tbaytel Multiplex, was officially approved and ratified by City Council on Tuesday, November 4th.

This partnership represents a major long-term investment in the well-being and future of Thunder Bay and the region. Under the agreement, Tbaytel will contribute $50,000 dollars per year over 10 years, totalling $500,000 dollars for the naming rights. In addition to the naming rights agreement, Tbaytel is also pleased that City Council approved the use of $4.5 million dollars in Tbaytel contributions from the Renew Thunder Bay Reserve Fund to help further fund construction of the facility. This funding is made possible because of Tbaytel’s community-owned model, where customer support directly generates annual returns that help reduce the municipal tax burden and assist with contributions to special projects such as these.

“For us at Tbaytel, this goes beyond being a service provider; it reinforces our position as a true community partner and a proud, invested member of this region. We want everyone from kids to families to feel a sense of pride and excitement about the Tbaytel Multiplex. The special dividend, combined with the naming rights, contributes a total of $5 million dollars to the new facility and demonstrates our commitment to the well-being and future of our neighbours, and we look forward to the positive impact this will have for years to come.” says Paul Norris, President & CEO of Tbaytel.

“We can’t think of a better way to showcase a facility that provides world-class access to sports and recreational

opportunities than the name, Tbaytel Multiplex, after one of the most community-connected companies in Thunder Bay and region,” said Mayor Ken Boshcoff. “Congratulations to all on this historic day.”

“It’s an exciting time as we come together to celebrate the naming of the Tbaytel Multiplex, a place that will help grow and build our city while connecting everyone to the best in sports and recreation. On behalf of the entire community, I would like to thank Tbaytel for their generous contributions to this wonderful project: both their special dividend of $4.5 million towards building construction and today, their generous contribution of $500,000 over 10 years to assist with operating costs,” said John Collin, City Manager.

Strategically located near the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium and Canada Games Complex, the facility will accommodate a wide range of activities, including soccer, football, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, cricket, school programs, and camps. The Tbaytel Multiplex will serve as a central hub for community sport and activity, designed to meet the needs of everyone in the community.

Construction of the Tbaytel Multiplex is currently underway, with completion anticipated in late 2026
