Thunder Bay, Ont. (June 19, 2026) – The Tbaytel for Good Community Fund is proud to announce three winners for 2026, selected from a record-breaking 75 submissions. We are truly inspired by the overwhelming interest in sparking positive change across our region.

Our diverse panel of community judges meticulously evaluated each proposal based on its potential impact, the beneficiaries involved, project feasibility, and budget. Tbaytel takes great pride in the Community Fund's vital role, which underscores our dedication to being a supportive neighbor and making a lasting, positive contribution to the communities we serve.

"Selecting winners from such a high number of submissions was a challenging task for our judges," adds Kaitlin Gaspar, Public Relations Communication Coordinator at Tbaytel. "However, the chosen projects stood out for their clear potential to foster connection and create long-term positive change in our communities.”

Tbaytel can't wait to see the inspiring journey ahead for the three winning projects as they work to uplift our community. Tbaytel wants to express its sincere gratitude to the esteemed Tbaytel for Good Community Fund Judges Panel for their invaluable dedication in selecting these remarkable initiatives.

The three deserving winners receiving $10,000 each are:

  • Thunder Bay Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit 561: This project seeks funding to purchase critical cold-water exposure suits and marine emergency medical response kits for its volunteers. The new gear will directly enhance both responder safety and public safety by allowing crews to operate longer in harsh conditions and provide immediate, life-saving care on the water.
  • Dryden Warmth Project: Operating as a year-round drop-in center for vulnerable and unhoused populations, this initiative provides a safe, dignified space with access to essential amenities and wraparound community resources. Funding will be used to supply healthy food and snacks, addressing immediate hunger while fostering long-term physical well-being and social connection.
  • Lakehead Public Schools: This initiative aims to purchase specialized all-terrain wheelchair for the Kingfisher Outdoor Education Centre to remove accessibility barriers for students with mobility challenges. By ensuring all students can navigate trails and participate in land-based learning alongside their peers, the project promotes total inclusion and independence for the upcoming school year.

"To all the community members and organizations who shared their inspiring projects with the 2026 Tbaytel for Good Community Fund, thank you. Your dedication drives positive change in our communities, and we are incredibly proud of the impact these projects will have," says Gaspar.
