How do I handle obscene, threatening or harassing calls?

Learn how to deal with harassing calls

If you receive an obscene, threatening or harassing call, please follow the below instructions:

  1. Don't talk to the caller.
  2. Hang up quietly. Don't display emotion or alarm.
  3. Never indicate that you are alone.
  4. Advise children not to give information to strangers. When you are not home, have them say "My parents can't come to the phone right now."
  5. To prevent people from guessing your gender or age you may request your directory entry be changed to your surname and initials only. You can also request that your street address be removed by contacting Tbaytel Customer Care.
  6. Recorded greetings on answering machines should not include your name or indicate that you are not home. A message might say: "Hello. Your call cannot be answered at the moment. Please leave your name, number and a brief message after the beep and your call will be returned as soon as possible. Thanks."
  7. Use Call Trace if calls persist.
  8. For more information or assistance, call Tbaytel Corporate Security. We cooperate with police agencies in the identification and prosecution of unlawful calls.
