Thunder Bay, Ontario (Dec. 4, 2023) – Tbaytel continues to bolster its 5G coverage in northern Ontario after the results of the recent 3800 MHz spectrum auction by Innovation, Science, and Economic Development (ISED) Canada.
After four weeks of intense bidding from telecommunication providers across Canada, the federal government announced the winners of its spectrum license auction Nov. 30 with Tbaytel receiving 21 per cent of the 3800MHz band available in Northwestern Ontario. This spectrum band is integral to Tbaytel’s current and future expansion of 5G services throughout challenging northern Ontario terrain by providing more speed and capacity to its already impressive low and mid-band spectrum acquired in previous auctions.

Tbaytel acquired 30MHz of the 3800MHz band in the Kenora and Sioux Lookout area, 80MHz in the Algoma district and an additional 150MHz spanning the areas of Thunder Bay, Fort Frances and Marathon.
5G service operates over traditional and new frequency bands in the low, mid and millimetre-wave ranges. It brings unprecedented speeds, more capacity and transforms possibilities for the people and businesses Tbaytel serves in northern Ontario.
