Underground service with an open trench

If the outside telephone service wire is going to be installed underground, Tbaytel can arrange to bury the telephone service wire and conduit during the construction phase.

The homeowner should contact Tbaytel’s Customer Care department once the hydro company has provided a date to install the hydro wire and conduit in the open trench. This will allow Tbaytel to coordinate with the hydro company to bury both the telephone and hydro services within one trench. Tbaytel requires a minimum of 48 hours notice to bury a new telephone service wire. Some exceptions may apply.

Note – To accommodate Tbaytel service wires, the open trench should be extended to the hydro service entrance panel (breaker box) location.
Telephone service wire can be placed above the hydro service, providing that the telephone service wire is buried at least 45 centimeters (18 inches) below the ground and a minimum of 30 centimeters (12 inches) between the telephone and hydro services.

Alternatively, the telephone service wire and conduit can be buried adjacent to the hydro wire and conduit as long as the two services are at least 30 centimeters (12 inches) apart.

Aerial wire or underground service without an open trench

If the service will be aerial or if there is not an open trench, it is suggested that the homeowner contact Tbaytel 3-4 weeks before service is required. This will ensure that the installation order can be scheduled on the homeowner’s requested date with sufficient time for Tbaytel to complete any additional outside work. For example, arranging to dig a trench at the homeowner’s expense, running long spans of outside aerial wire or installing a new terminal etc.

The homeowner should call Tbaytel to arrange for underground service before starting landscaping, driveway installation, sprinkler system installations, etc.
