There are many reasons why you would want to do a backup of your phone. It is recommended that you do regular backups of your device in case you misplace your phone or it gets damaged. If your phone needs to go away for repair; a backup is vital as one of the first steps in troubleshooting a handset is to reset it to factory condition.

A backup will allow you to quickly recover your data when your device is returned from repair or if you have to purchase a new handset due to lost/stolen or irreparable damage.

Transfer data to iPhone

You can transfer data from a mobile device to an iPhone using Apple's Quick Start. Learn more by visiting Apple Transfer Instructions.

Backup to the iCloud

Apple iPhones have a built-in function that can do a backup of your phone.

1. Ensure the phone is connected to a power source and connected to WiFi
2. Tap on the Settings App
3. Tap on [your name]
4. Tap on iCloud
5. Enable options to backup
   • Photos
   • Mail
   • Contacts
   • Calendars
   • ect
6. Tap on Backup
7. Enable iCloud Backup if it wasn’t enabled
8. Tap on Back Up Now
   • Call history
   • Settings
   • Account Data
9. Tap on Back Up Now to start the backup.

Backup to a Mac

1. Ensure the phone is connected to WiFi
2. Plug your phone into the computer using the USB cable (typically the charging cable).
3. In the Finder sidebar on your Mac, select your iPhone.
   • MacOS 10.15 or later is required
   • With earlier versions of macOS, use iTunes to back up iPhone.
4. At the top of the Finder window, click General.
5. Select Back up all of the data on your iPhone to this Mac.
6. To encrypt your backup data and protect it with a password, select Encrypt local backup.
7. Click Back Up Now.

Backup to a PC

1. Ensure the phone is connected to WiFi
2. Plug your phone into the computer using the USB cable (typically the charging cable).
3. In the iTunes app, click the iPhone button near the top left of the iTunes window.
4. Click Summary.
5. Click Back Up Now (below Backups).
6. To encrypt your backups, select Encrypt local backup, type a password, then click Set Password.
