I have no service and I am in Canada (Android)

I am in Canada and my Android phone says no service

These are some helpful tips for what to do if your Android has no service when in Canada.

Restart your phone

  1. On most Androids, pressing & holding the power button for approximately 5 seconds will bring up the power menu. Some models of Android require that you press the power & volume down button to prompt the power menu to come up.
  2. Select the Restart option

Make sure Airplane Mode is turned off

  1. Slide down from the top of the phone to display the Quick Settings panel
  2. If the Airplane mode icon is bright, this indicates Airplane mode is on. Tap the Airplane mode icon to turn it off.

Check Network Settings

  1. Get to Settings by sliding down from the top of the phone to open Quick Settings & selecting the gear icon. You can also access the Settings app within the app library by scrolling through your phone
  2. Tap on Connections and then tap Mobile Networks
  3. Tap on Network Operators and turn Automatic off
    • This will cause the cellphone to start scanning for nearby towers
    • This process can take anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes
  4. You may see a variety of networks come up. If none of the following are available you are not near an active Tbaytel or Roaming partner tower: Tbaytel, Tbaytel/Rogers & KMTS
    • Do not attempt to connect to any Tbaytel-EXT you see in your ‘Available Networks’ as you will not be able to connect to the Tbaytel-EXT network

Network Settings Reset

Performing a network settings reset will also erase any saved Wi-Fi passwords and Bluetooth devices. You will need to re-connect to any previous Wi-Fi networks and re-enter the password.

  1. Go to Settings and tap on General Management
  2. Scroll and find the Reset options
  3. Tap on Reset network settings.
    • If prompted, enter your PIN or passcode.
  4. Tap Reset again to confirm
