Why can't I call long distance numbers?

How to troubleshoot when you are unable to dial long distance numbers from your Home Phone.

The first step is to ensure the number you are dialing is correct - calling internationally is different from calling Canada/U.S.  long distance.

If you are trying to call a Canada or U.S. Number:

  • Dial 1 + City or Area Code + Phone Number

If you are trying to make an international call:

  • Dial 011 + Country Code + City or Area Code + Phone Number

If you are not certain of the Country Code required, it can be looked up at CountryCode.org.

Once you’ve confirmed the country code, check to see if you have a long distance block on your line. In order to confirm whether or not you have a block on your line, you can check your Tbaytel Invoice,  the block will appear on page 3 of your invoice under features called “Toll Denial - Residential”.

If you have confirmed that there are no blocks on your Tbaytel line, you can verify whether or not your Long Distance provider is Tbaytel.

  1. Call 1-700-555-4141 from the line having trouble calling Long Distance numbers
  2. Listen for the interrupt advising of the Long Distance Provider.
    • When you call 1-700-555-4141 and Tbaytel is the provider, it says “Thank you for having Tbaytel as the long distance provider” and provides both the local and toll-free numbers to contact us.

If your long distance provider is Tbaytel give our Technical Support a call at 807-623-4400 or toll free at 1-800-264-9501 - if it is a different provider contact them using the provider contact information received from calling the number above.
