Why does my phone ring once and hang up?

Learn what to do if your Home Phone rings only once when you receive a call.

If your phone rings once and then hangs up it is doing what is referred to as a “ring trip”. This is usually caused by a corroded connection and is often an issue with your phone jack. Using a flashlight you can look at the pins in the phone jacks and if you see any green buildup the jack has started to corrode and needs to be replaced.

Having a corroded connection will cause the voltage on the line that makes your phone ring to flow improperly and will result in calls dropping or static. You can choose to replace the jack yourself or have a Tbaytel Technician replace the jack. If you subscribe to Wire Care the service call will be covered. If you do not have wire care then you will be billed for the service call and phone jack.
