I have no service and I'm in the United States

Learn how to connect your device to networks in the U.S.

The United States decommissioned their 3G network in most areas in 2022. In order to have service in the US, you must now have a VoLTE compatible device (iPhone 6S, Samsung Galaxy S10 or newer). Tbaytel roams with AT&T and T-Mobile in the US.

Power Cycle Your Device

The first step to troubleshooting with a mobile device is to reboot the phone by powering it off completely and turning it back on. Android devices can vary between manufactures, please visit your device manufacture's support website for instructions.

Make Sure Airplane Mode is Turned Off

For iPhone users:

  1. Go into Settings.

  2. Check to make sure the toggle switch beside Airplane Mode is turned off and grey.

For Android users:

  1. Go into Settings

  2. Tap on Connections

  3. Check to make sure the toggle switch beside Flight Mode is turned off.

Check Network Availability

If you still have no service you may not be in an area of coverage.  To check to see if your device can see the AT&T or T-Mobile networks follow these steps:

For iPhone users:

  1. Go into Settings

  2. Tap on Cellular

  3. Tap on Network Selection

  4. Turn off the automatic toggle switch so it is grey.  Your iPhone will now do a scan for available cellular networks if it sees any and can take up to about a minute for it to complete the scan.

  5. If AT&T or T-Mobile show up in the list of available networks, tap on it to connect to it

  6. If you do not see AT&T or T-Mobile as an available network you are not within the coverage area

  7. If you see the AT&T or T-Mobile Network but it does not connect to it when you tap on it you may have to perform a Network Settings Reset.

For Android users:

  1. Go into Settings

  2. Tap on Connections

  3. Tap on Mobile Networks

  4. Tap Network Operators

  5. Turn off the automatic toggle switch. Your phone will now scan for available cellular networks. This scan may take up to a minute to complete.

  6. If AT&T or T-Mobile show up in the list of available networks, tap on it to connect to it.

  7. If you do not see AT&T or T-Mobile as an available network you are not within the coverage area

Performing a network settings reset will also erase any saved WiFi passwords. You will need to re-connect to any previous WiFi networks and re-enter the password.

For iPhone users:

  1. Go into Settings

  2. Tap on General

  3. Tap on Transfer or Reset iPhone

  4. Tap on Reset

  5. Tap on Reset Network Settings (This will not erase your phone)

  6. Confirm that you want to do the Reset

  7. Your iPhone will restart automatically - if the phone does not reboot automatically - reboot it yourself.

  8. Once your iPhone has restarted, check to see if you have service

For Android users:

  1. Go into Settings

  2. Tap on General Management

  3. Tap Reset

  4. Tap on Reset Network Settings (This will not erase your phone)

  5. Confirm that you want to do the Reset

  6. Your Android will restart automatically - if the phone does not reboot automatically - reboot it yourself.

  7. Once your Android has restarted, check to see if you have service.

Other Factors Which May Affect Your Cell Signal

There are many factors which can affect the signal strength on your mobile phone.  If you are in a building and have no service but have service outside of the building, there is something is blocking the signal. Common issues that will affect the cellular signal getting to your device include:

  1. Metal roofs and metal siding will stop wireless signals because wireless signals do not go through metal, they reflect off of it.

  2. If you are in a basement the cellular signal cannot easily penetrate through the thick concrete calls and several feet of dirt around the foundation

  3. If you are in a building the thick concrete calls can decrease the signal strength quite a bit and you may have to be by a window to get service

  4. Every surface a wireless signal goes through, walls, floors etc. will decrease its strength.  If you have a WiFi connection you could use VoWiFi calling
